Foam and air inclusions are unavoidable in many food technology processes. However, they can significantly impair efficiency, product quality, and plant safety. IMPAG Food Germany offers a high-performance portfolio of defoamers and deaerators for use as processing aids or approved food additives. These solutions are designed to stabilize production processes and support safe, efficient, and economical manufacturing.

Why Use Defoamers & Deaerators?

The targeted use of these agents provides numerous advantages throughout the entire process chain:

  • Increased plant capacity and throughput.
  • Improved pumping, mixing, and filling processes.
  • Reduction of product loss caused by overflowing.
  • Prevention of process disruptions and equipment downtime.
  • Enhanced product homogeneity and visual appearance.
  • Reduced air entrainment and higher filling accuracy.
  • Optimized sensory characteristics of the end product (e.g., beverages or protein shakes).

Particularly in systems containing protein, fat, or surfactants, stable micro- and macro-foams often form, which are difficult to control without suitable additives.

Terminology at a Glance

In practice, these functions are often combined to sustainably control both acute foaming and air inclusions:

  • Defoamers: Specifically and rapidly destroy existing foam.
  • Antifoams: Prevent the formation of new foam during the process.
  • Deaerators: Promote the rising and escape of finely dispersed air from liquids.

Product Portfolio

Our defoamers and deaerators are based on various active ingredient systems and are precisely tailored to the respective application:

  • Silicone-based defoamers (e.g., polydimethylsiloxane):

Very high efficiency even at low dosage levels.

  • Vegetable oil-based systems:

Clean-label" friendly and available in oxidation-stable versions.

  • Polyol and polyalkylene glycol systems:

    Particularly effective in viscous media.

  • Mono- and diglycerides:

Effective deaerators, especially for beverages and protein products.

  • Mineral oil-based systems:

Used in selected applications for foam control.

Available Product Forms:

  • Liquid
  • Powder
  • Emulsions

Applications in Food Processing

Defoamers and deaerators are suitable for various areas, including:

  • Beverages, broths, and soups.
  • Milk and dairy products.
  • Protein and collagen processing.
  • Meat, fish, and seafood processing.
  • Fruit and vegetable washing.
  • Fermentation processes (e.g., beer, kombucha, enzymes).
  • Dry mixes and instant products.
  • CIP (Cleaning-in-Place) processes and wastewater treatment.

Regulation & Quality

Depending on the product and application, our solutions are available as:

  • Processing aids.
  • Approved food additives according to EU Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008.
  • Additional standards: Non-GMO, Kosher and Halal certified, allergen-free, and selected products in organic quality.

IMPAG Food Germany assists with regulatory assessment, labeling, and product-specific selection.
